Im 31 but dont have too much energy. Hard to find time to work out besides playing golf. Im wanting to start off by eating better. I eat a bagel in the mornings now instead of McDonalds. Im not too worried about the weight loss. Im 6'6" at 250. I wouldnt mind losing 10-15 though. I jsut want to make sure im around in my 60's atleast. Blood pressure is a tad high but nothing to worry about. Im on effexor for anxiety and stress from my job and 3 kids. I would just like some foods that some of you eat that will actually feel me up. I cant sleep good at night if im hungry and I get too sleepy at work if I eat too much. I know salads are good but what shoudl I eat when I am out? Any good meals at fast food places? The market fresh sandwhiches are pretty good. I just would like some ops! Thanks guys

Good thread, but where to start? Your diet is only half the equation. You will need to exercise, too. There is always time for at least 20 minutes of cardio. This will help your energy levels, and your stress.

Sounds like you might be eating a lot of refined carbs (white breads, pastas, etc.) If you are eating a plain bagel every morning, switch to whole wheat, and put some peanut butter on it. The extra fiber will make you less hungry.

If at all possible avoid fast food joints. There are some "healthy" options, but its too easy and tempting to opt for the burger and fries. Pack a lunch instead. If you must eat at fast food places, then get the salads, or grilled chicken sandwiches (hold the mayo), and eat half of the bun. If you are out for lunch and get a salad, then get a vinagrette for the dressing and get it on the side. Restaurants put way too much dressing on the salads

Some other healthy switches are:
Sweet potato instead of a baked potato
Jennie O ground turkey breast instead of ground beef
Whole wheat pasta, or Dreamfields instead of regular pasta
Whole wheat breads

A great snack before bed is a handful of almonds. They will satiate your hunger, if you are feeling like you need a little something before bed.

Hope some of this helps.

Thanks, I just got back from Whole Foods. Some nice things there. I may start buying alot more groceried there. I am also looking for something to drink during the day at work. I drink alot of water but still get tired. I love the soda but the caffeine makes me jittery. I need something that has no harmful additives like caffeine so I will have natural energy. Any thoughts?

drink gatorade. It has some sugar, but that ain't so bad. Just don't drink it before bed or first thing in the morning.

My favorite afternoon snack consists of a sliced apple with some yogurt. Make sure you get a quality apple. I prefer Fuji or Jazz.

For a dessert or post-dinner snack, I like the Atkins power bars. They are tasty and have very little sugar.

I don't know where to start here.

First of all, do you know your body type? Ectomorph, endomorpth, or mesomorph? Do you know what that means.

What are your goals? muscle, just weight loss with no concern for muscle or what?

OK, I re-read the thread. Obviously you are out for weight loss. Do you go to the gym? And don't make excuses that you are too tired, have kids, wife, drunk, etc. If you want it, you want it. No excuses. if it was easy, everyone would look like me.

Salads are a good idea but you need to decide what body type you are. i'm close to your height and am 6'5"and am an ectomorph. I can get away with eating alot of shit until I really want to get cut up. start eating 4-6 small meals a day of mostly protein for starters. Do that for just a week and report back of how you feel and I can give you more info once you tell me your body type.

I hope im not dumb, but how do I find out my body type? I "could" make time for 30 mins a day to workout. I also play golf or the range 4-5 times a week. It may be in my head but I feel better since ive been eating salads and wraps and have more energy. My blood pressure is slighty high too and I want it lower. Going shopping again tonight at the organic whole foods place. That place stinks but its got alot of good things for you and the enviroment. I was on the mens health vitamins from GNC and they worked great but im trying to just take the one a day pills and leave it at that. Thanks

Gay.

C-lo - Just be more aware of what you are eat. Try to take a walk with your kids 4 nights a week, and maybe walk every other time out on the golf course instead of getting a cart. I know you spend a lot of time out in the cart looking for your ball in the timber, but work on your golf game and maybe you can hit some more fairways.

You will be surprised how just cutting out the late night snacks, replacing some current snacks with healthier ones(Carrots and fat free ranch), and doing a little extra exercise will get you.

Just doing those things can cut out 500 calories a day or 3,500 a week, or 14,000 per month, or 168,000 calories per year.

You get the point.

eat many small meals during the day, drink plenty of H20...this will speed up your metabolism. ALWAYS eat breakfast. Here is a sample eating day..
Breakfast
egg whites, 1 whole egg> maybe lean bacon or turkey products
eat small snack between lunch. maybe protein bar or protein shake
Lunch... eat a turk sand on whole wheat, maybe a salad with chk, make sure dressing is ff.. also add a cup of fruit
mid day snack. make sure it is healthy
Dinner
chk, fish, meat, also eat a veg, or whole grain rice, etc
night snack. maybe a protein shake. or protein bar.
exercise 5 days a week, cardio 2 days no longer then 40 minutes and weight train. stay away from soft drinks they are terrible. cut down drinking beer, limit diet drinks too. Once you get started it is easy to stay on track. Also trust me by doing this you will feel 100x better. good luck.

Yeah, multi vitamin everyday is great. Although, you can get a chea0per one at a groccery store. GNC is shit. you can get the same products at small pharmacy type places or the grocery story.

Let me ask you this, besdies the bagel that you say you eat, what is a typical meal plan for you daily? Do you put on weight very easily? Put on muscle easily?

Just some general idea of some foods to eat would be
1. chicken
2. protein shake with skim milk
3. fat free yogurt
4. what bread
5. Oat meal( the real kind not that sugary kind)
6. Yams
7. tuna
8. fruits
9. vegetabbles( i get the frozen kind and just have a few servings a day) taste like shit but it works
10. salads of course. i love chicken salads with fat free ranch
11. I love egg beaters and just drinking them straight from the carton but its not for everyone
12. cottage cheese

If you ate those foods and got some solid weightlifting in and some cardio, even walking the golf course, you should notice a difference. What body type you are will determine how fast you notice. Example on me is i notice things very quickly. I can work hard for a week and look good but also it works the other way. i get drunk for a week straight and I look like dog shit.

Also, almonds are a good thing to eat. They provide the "good fat" not the saturated fat.

And keep in mind, not sure how much you drink, but alcohol lowers testosterone which is what seperates girls from guys. Well that and a penis
